The Mozarthaus Vienna is enhancing its public presence with an innovative, freely accessible installation located in the left window next to the museum entrance. This mechanical installation playfully invites passersby to engage with the many faces of Mozart, offering a fresh and interactive take on his image. Conceived, designed, and realized as a kinetic display, the piece adds a dynamic and artistic layer to the museum’s exterior and serves as a creative introduction to the world of Mozart.
Five backlit, rotating cylinders display various historical portraits of Mozart, divided into segments. The individual image segments rotate at varying speeds and in different directions, constantly recomposing Mozart’s face. This kinetic animation evokes an 18th-century music box, creating a unique visual experience.
Visitors can position themselves in front of the iconic Mozart silhouette and capture the moving image for photos and videos—an interactive selfie point, perfect for social media.
